Devotional thoughts for most days, for those who depend on the grace and mercy of God in Jesus Christ. These thoughts are Bible based and inspired by my Reformed tradition.

Note that this story is about how to:
see, come back, praise, worship, give thanks, get up, and go.
This is the rhythm of faith as explained by the story of the grateful leper.

Jesus, God’s missionary, his own Word who became flesh to reach out to us and to everyone who acknowledges the need for a relationship with their Creator and Redeemer, once again deals with the reality of human need and pain when he met the woman caught in adultery”.

Heed the words of Jesus to a desperate dad: “Everything is possible for one who believes.”   And follow the example of this man seeking the help of our Lord: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Jesus was upset by the need of a man suffering from the horrific illness of leprosy. He declares his willingness to help him and acts decisively in the man’s life by cleansing him and sending him to the temple to become officially part of the daily life and worship in Israel again.

We do not have to wait till the day when Jesus returns, to become new, transformed people!
It all starts here and now.  It begins  on the day God reconciles us with Godself. On the day we experience our redemption, we celebrate by singing and shouting:  a new day has begun!

“What should I do with my life?” Many of us ask this question. We ask it when things do not make as much sense as during “better” times, or when we are exhausted, or worried.

The Bible’s suggests that we have to begin with a bigger, more relevant question. If I am a Christian, if I am committed to follow Jesus and love him, my question should be: ”How do I fit into God’s plans?” And “What are God’s plans for me?”

In the well known parable in Matthew 25: 1 – 13 about the ten maidens, five wise and five foolish Jesus taught,
first of all, that he will return when least expected, for no one knows the day or the hour of his return.
Secondly, he teaches that we must be ready for his return at any time of our days and lives.

Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me”, Jesus said.   “It is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.” What good news this is!  Whoever receives one such child in Christ’s Name, receives our Lord.  An important part of whom we are and what we do as the church, is to receive people here in the name of Jesus Christ.
