The results of living a self-seeking, self serving life are before us all the time: discontent, unbearable stress about our jobs, neglected marriages and families, few if any real friendships and the nagging sense at the back of our minds that none of what we do is really making any difference. There are times when we sense it, but for the most part we live life virtually oblivious to the fruitlessness of a life where WE and not CHRIST, are our main concern.

What is keeping us from being able to put God's priorities first? Jesus also encountered people who had the "I'll get around to God’s stuff when I have the time" attitude. Who would seek the Kingdom of God and his righteousness when it suits them and have nothing “better” to do or “feel the need”.

Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:25, 27 and 33:
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes... Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Seek first God’s kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Jesus is telling us that when selfish concerns take preference over following him and doing his work, we need to reconsider the purpose of our lives. Jesus tells us that if we are not seeking his kingdom for our lives, our communities or the Church, we are probably getting deeper into trouble every day.
We should not let our worries about material security be the reason for saying "I'll get around to God’s stuff when I have the time or the need”.

Concerns about material things have a way of taking over our lives in such a way that we probably will never get around to God’s will and care. And if we never come to the place where we cast our anxieties on him, we are really in trouble. Contentment goes out at the backdoor of our lives.

The amazing thing is that God is not asking us to do anything that God has not already done.
In Jesus Christ, before we ever thought about doing anything for God, he gave up everything for us. He gave us his best. He gave us his only Son.
The reason for doing my very best for God, in everything I pursue, is because the Lord  already did his best for me in and through Jesus Christ.

God will bless you in ways you cannot imagine, when you put God’s priorities for you and your life first – and you experience his promise to add everything you need, unto you.
