Liturgical prayers for Easter Sunday.

Call to worship:
Let us make every effort to enter the rest of God, so that no one will fall by following an example of disobedience.   14 Since we have a great high priest,  Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.  Heb 4: 11

Or  -

Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. It is in the same Jesus, because we have faith in him, that we dare with confidence to approach God  and admit our guilt before him.  Rom.5:8, Eph.3:12.

Prayer of praise and for the forgiveness of our sins:

O Glorious God of hope and of life! Today, on this day of the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we hold fast and proclaim that you, our God, desires that all people should be saved and come to the knowledge of truth, by your Son, our Saviour.

Father, today we confess anew that our Lord Jesus Christ, crucified for our sin, never saw corruption, but was raised on the third day. Grant us in his risen life, a new life in which we are victorious over sin, yes over the weakness of our human existence, that we may rightfully serve you and your Son in the power of the Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus Christ,  our almighty High Priest in heaven, always be with us on earth, make intercession for us, and guide and protect us  - as you are clothed with authority and power as Lord overall.

Almighty risen Lord, who commissioned the Church to preach unto all nations the Gospel of your grace, wherein you freely offer to all people the forgiveness of their sin and eternal life:

Forgive us all our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us, enable us by your Spirit to turn from sin and to receive rest only from you through your victory over our felonies, over the grave and all evil.

Grant us a joyful day of celebration of a new life made possible by your triumphant resurrection. By grace and through faith, we pray!  Amen.

 Prayer of Intercession:

Heavenly Father, your Christ has risen indeed! Dear Lord Jesus, because you are alive, I too shall live.

Lord Jesus, you were dead and now you live forever. Fill my heart with the joy and peace of your eternal life.   Dear Jesus, without you finding me, I would be lost.  You called me by my name, even when I did not recognize you. I worship you, my Saviour and my Lord.

Lord Jesus, you are alive! Lord Jesus Christ, my Lord and my God! You are truly alive! Grant me hope through the Word that shows me your hands and feet and your side and thus brings me faith and life.

Heavenly Lord, you made me your messenger to proclaim the forgiveness of sins. You truly bring good news to all who receive you in faith.  Oh holy Christ, my Lord and my God!  In you I find the power to live, to be free of doubt, and to know you always.

Heavenly Father, on this day of joyful celebration, we pray for people in every kind of need; that they too may know your power, your protection and your love.   Make your ways known on the earth, your saving power among all nations. We pray for the leaders of the world: may they exercise their power with restraint.

Lord we pray for countries divided by war, famine, disease, terrorism, or false religions:  May reconciliation and peace triumph within them through the risen Christ.

We pray for our Government, and for all civil authorities:  may they rule in justice and truth.  We pray for those who administer justice: may they do their work faithfully and diligently.

Gracious Father, we pray for Your Church, which you love and for which you gave your Son. Help us to serve the Church, and help us to love the Church, as Christ loves the Church and gives himself for her now and always.   Keep your Church from division, heresy, and pettiness, keep us from being conformed to the patterns of the world, keep us pure, and holy, and zealous for good works.

Lord, we pray for our families.  Protect them from danger and from temptation. We pray for our spouses and for our children. May they learn that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. We pray for our parents and relatives:  teach us to honour and love them.

We pray for those who do not know the truth of the Gospel, for those who seek you, but have not yet found you.   Lord, lead them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Gracious Lord, by your mighty power, heal the sick, comfort the poor, console the lonely and forsaken and set the captives free!   Guide us, o God, by your Word and Spirit that we may see your true light and in your Gospel discover freedom and peace today.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
